ResourcesCenter for the Study of Traumatic Stress: Working with Combat Injured Families The Center for the Study of Traumatic Stress (CSTS) has released the proceedings from its Workgroup on Intervention with Combat Injured Families. This valuable resource informs the strategic planning process for working with military families. Group participants included national experts and leaders in child psychiatry, trauma, and military medicine. In addition to the proceedings from the meeting, the Workgroup has also published other documents under the Resources for Recovery campaign that began in June of 2008. The Principles for Caring for Combat Injured Families and their Children is one such document that outlines ten principles, which if used simultaneously, can foster evidence-based approaches to support healthy growth and recovery for combat injured families. New Guide for Improving Outcomes for People with Mental Illnesses The Council of State Governments Justice Center announced on March 31st the release of Improving Outcomes for People with Mental Illnesses under Community Corrections Supervision: A Guide to Research-Informed Policy and Practice. The Guide reviews the body of recent research on community corrections supervision for people with mental illnesses and translates the findings to help officials develop effective interventions. It explores the extent to which people with mental illnesses become involved in the community corrections system, and why traditional supervision and treatment strategies are not generally effective for this population. The publication also summarizes evidence-based and promising programs, strategies, and techniques to improve results for the justice system and people with mental illnesses. The Guide discusses how the current body of knowledge can help shape agency operations, program design, and implementation. To download a copy of the publication, go to consensusproject.org. |
