Overview
The TAPA Center:
- Serves as the national source of all relevant jail diversion information and research, as well as a point of referral to other appropriate resources
- Generates new knowledge on the implementation and outcomes of jail diversion programs
- Is a locus of key policy discussions on jail diversion and translates information gained through implementation of jail diversion programs into tools for policy analysis and policy development
- Collaborates with the Council of State Government's Criminal Justice/Mental Health Consensus Project, the technical assistance provider for the Bureau of Justice Assistance (Department of Justice) Mental Health Court Program. TAPA and CSG work closely together to consult on assistance to specific jurisdictions and to develop resources of general use to the field.
- Provides an appropriate array of technical assistance techniques and technology to enhance the capacity of CMHS TCE grantees and other communities to address problems that they encounter, to enrich their resources, and to plan for future growth and sustainability
- Develops resources designed to expand the capacity of mental health and criminal justice professionals to respond to the needs of jail diversion program participants
- Serves as Coordinating Center for the CMHS TCE Jail Diversion grantees
